The impact of an increasingly competitive global economy on business aviation is a key concern for the industry, and will be the focus of a keynote address delivered by former U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow at the Oct. 22 Opening General Session of the National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA’s) Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA2013) in Las Vegas, NV.
Snow has an extensive record in both transportation and public service, including as the 73rd U.S. secretary of the treasury under President George W. Bush, in high-ranking positions in the U.S. Department of Transportation as a thought leader on transportation deregulation, as well as prominent advisory roles to three U.S. presidents. He is highly regarded throughout the international financial community for his expertise in global economic concerns, with a particular emphasis on the rise of the Asia-Pacific region and its implications for economic growth in the United States and other established markets. Snow has considerable experience with transportation and business aviation from his tenure as president, CEO and chairman of CSX Corporation, the third-largest railroad company in the U.S. CSX is a long-standing NBAA Member Company that was recognized in 2013 with the Association’s Schedulers & Dispatchers Outstanding Achievement & Leadership Award, and in 2010 with NBAA’s 60-year Safe Flying Achievement Award. “We are delighted that John Snow will be a keynote speaker at our Convention’s Opening General Session,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “He brings a unique perspective in the highest levels of government and as a great CEO, from a great American company, who understands well the important role of business aviation in the global economy.” Snow is a graduate of the University of Toledo and the George Washington University Law School, and holds a master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University, a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia, and numerous honorary degrees. Joining Snow for the NBAA2013 Opening General Session will be Michael Huerta, administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, and other industry and government leaders. About 25,000 business aviation professionals from across the United States and around the world will meet Oct. 22 to 24 in Las Vegas, NV, for the Convention, which will offer the premier opportunity for aircraft-purchase decision makers, entrepreneurs and other business leaders to meet and conduct business, make buying decisions and discuss current trends involving the use of an aircraft for business purposes.
